Carrots are among the easiest vegetables to grow. This popular root crop is very high in beta-carotene. Carrots take up very little room in the garden and are high yielders. Plant close together and thin as the carrots develop; you’ll harvest delicious baby carrots early.

Danvers Half long carrots
Danver's Half Long Carrots
These delicious carrots have a smooth skin with orange-red roots and pointed tips. This variety differs from both the Chantenay and Nantes type carrots in several ways. It does grow well in poor soil and shallow gardens where caliche (cement-like subsoil) is a problem. These carrots are about 6 inches long and 2 inches thick at the shoulder.  A hardy variety, these carrots are not prone to splitting or cracking. This heirloom variety originated in 1871. 75 days.

Little Finger Carrots
Originated in France, these little gourmet carrots develop color quickly. Pull when the root is about three inches long. These sweet, deep orange colored carrots can be grown in small spaces for high yields. Consider container gardening for these delicious carrots. Unlike commercial "baby" carrots that are simply cut from larger carrots, these real baby heirloom carrots are grown to be harvested when very small. 50 days.

Nantes Carrots
These heirloom sweet carrots are nearly coreless; with orange-scarlet roots 6-7 inches long and about 1 inch thick the entire length. This variety produces excellent quality, delicious tender carrots. Save room for this delicious carrot; it's particularly wonderful in salads. A favorite of home gardeners. Also known as touchon carrot. 65 days.

Royal Chantenay Carrots
These bright golden-orange heirloom carrots are fine grained and very tender. This variety is known for its sweet delicate flavor. The thick roots are smooth and about 6 inches long. It does well in adverse climates and produces excellent yields and quality in the Southwest. It's ability to produce well in shallow soil is a bonus for desert gardens. 65 days.
